 | Submit application and application fee to adoption
agency to start the process. |
 | Receive and complete I-600A form (Petition to Adopt)
from INS. |
 | Obtain 2 certified birth certificates from the state
in which you were born. |
 | Obtain 2 marriage certificates. |
 | Send the I-600A, birth and marriage certificates,
fingerprints, note that homestudy will follow, and fees to local INS
office. |
 | Send state criminal check releases, sets of
fingerprints, plus fee to Oregon state police. |
 | Read, sign, and return Adoption and Family Services
Agreements along with homestudy/postplacement fees. |
 | Send a small collection of photos for dossier. |
 | Collect the following for the homestudy process,
which will eventually go into your dossier:
 | Birth certificates |
 | Marriage certificates |
 | Employment letters |
 | Statement of Assets |
 | Last year's 1040 tax return |
 | Physicians' letters |
 | Police Report |
 | Child Abuse Check |
 | Three reference letters |
 | Letter of Intent |

 | Go through the process of obtaining your passport if
you don't already have one. |
 | Attend Pre-Adopt education classes. |
 | Attend monthly support meetings. |
 | Complete Homestudy |
 | Send Homestudy and previous documents as your dossier
to be translated and sent to China. |
